Chelsea Baumgartner

Born and raised in Bluffton, Indiana and continues to live within the state. She obtained a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Indiana Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana and continues to enhance upon her foundation through dedicated practice and independent study. Keeping in close proximity to her passion for 2D mediums, Chelsea’s recent works showcase an expressive aesthetic for simplicity: carefully balancing between the precision and detailed lines in her drawings and highlighting the vibrancy of color and textures in each of her paintings.

I was raised in, and continue to observe, a Christian faith and believe each individual begins with a basic purpose that we are to expand upon as we exist in life.  From an early age, there was a deep inclination within myself to interpret the world through illustration.  I’m compelled to cultivate this natural talent into a greater skill as a means to respect my beliefs.  The pen drawings and pallet knife paintings I create follow a similar process- each begin with a humble idea, thought, or feeling.  Once the foundation is established, I allow the medium to influence and improve the final result.

The art I produce narrates a story of the foundation and the love for the process from beginning to the end. Using the skills developed through education and unrestricted experimentation, the vivid color combinations, rich textures, and touches of detail work together to form an open ended result. While I purposefully leave my paintings ambiguous, or simplistic in subject matter- giving the opportunity for the audience to discover their own personal connection to them and for self reflection, the drawings that flow out of my head onto paper are meticulous and precise.  As an artist, that bond the viewer forms with my aesthetic is the objective, not to myself.
